When a suspicious fire occurs, the first step is to contact the OFC and, if deemed necessary, request assistance to investigate the fire. To reach the OFC, please call our toll-free number at 1-888-988-9488. The OFC Fire Service Advisor assigned to your incident will assist you by creating a Preliminary Fire Report (PFR) or Notification Report.

The Local Assistant must be prepared to provide most of the following information to the Fire Service Advisor:

• location of fire
• type of property
• date and time of incident
• reason for the call (advisory only, suspicious fire, request for an investigation, request for other assistance)
• list of people present (RCMP, coroner, electrical inspector, owner, occupant, witness, etc.)
• initial facts that may indicate cause/origin of fire
• injuries/fatalities
• investigator’s contact information
