Preliminary Report of Suspicious Fire
When a suspicious fire occurs, the first step is to contact the OFC and, if deemed necessary, request assistance to investigate the fire. To reach the OFC, please call our toll-free number at 1-888-988-9488. The OFC Fire Service Advisor assigned to your incident will assist you by creating a Preliminary Fire Report (PFR) or Notification Report.
The Local Assistant must be prepared to provide most of the following information to the Fire Service Advisor:
- location of fire
- type of property
- date and time of incident
- reason for the call (advisory only, suspicious fire, request for an investigation, request for other assistance)
- list of people present (RCMP, coroner, electrical inspector, owner, occupant, witness, etc.)
- initial facts that may indicate cause/origin of fire
- injuries/fatalities
- investigator’s contact information
For more information on Preliminary Fire Reports, please refer to Part 1, Section 13 of the Fire Services Act.
