A Local Assistant is given protection from any legal recourse while performing their duties when investigating and reporting a fire as outlined in Section 43 of the Fire Services Act, provided that:

• the person conducting the investigation has been duly appointed as a Local Assistant,
• the investigation performed is within the Local Assistant’s designated geographic jurisdiction, and
• it is performed honestly and fairly, and to the best of their ability.
