Existing Standpipe Upgrades

Existing standpipe systems may have pressures or have hose connections not in locations that meet present code standards. Another question that comes up often is whether an existing set of hose should be left in place or removed.

OFC assisted some fire departments in establishing their own protocol to deal with these issues. The following document is an example of one department’s protocol on some proposed scenarios and remedies of existing standpipes. This is a recommended guide only, and is not mandatory for all fire departments to follow.

OFC staff can assist you in establishing your protocol to standpipe upgrades. If you need assistance in standpipe upgrades, please contact the OFC.
